(Stay tuned for a write-up on this event. National Aviation Day marks the birth of Orville Wright, this day in 1871, in Dayton, OH. Orville and his brother Wilbur are seared into the memory of the world as having pioneered powered flight at Kitty Hawk, NC, December 17, 1903. Wilbur was born earlier, in 1867, but Orville had the luck (or was it courage?) to be the first to fly the Wright Flyer, for 12 seconds, on that fateful day. After an illustrious and long career in aeronautics, Orville died in 1948. Wilbur had succumbed in 1912.
